Cretan halva is a traditional Greek dessert, often served during Lent. It's a simple but delicious treat, made from durum wheat semolina, sweetened and flavored with cinnamon. Nuts or raisins can be added for added texture and flavor. This cake does not require an oven and is loved for its light, crumbly texture, as well as its unique taste.

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over low heat and add the semolina.
  2. Stir continuously for about 5 minutes until the mixture turns golden brown, then add the cinnamon stick.
  3. Add water and sugar. Mix and cook over low heat for about 10 minutes. The mixture begins to thicken, remove the cinnamon stick.
  4. Pour the halva into a container, level the surface and leave to cool.
